Beussink Hits Career Milestone in Win

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This afternoon the Webster University women's basketball team was back in action when they played host to the Lake Forest (Ill.) College Foresters in their final game of the Webster Tip-Off Classic. The Gorloks defeated the Foresters by a final score of 90-62 to improve to 3-0 on the season. With the loss, the Foresters fall to 1-2 on the season.

Webster played well in this one as they went 34-for-77 (44.2%) from the floor and 2-for-14 (14.3%) from behind the arc. They were outrebounded 39-34 and turned the ball over 19 times while forcing the Foresters to turn the ball over 36 times. The Gorloks were able to turn those 36 turnovers into 46 points on the other end of the floor. Webster also dished out 10 assists in the game.

In the first quarter of the game, both sides came out and exchanged points early. With the score tied at seven midway through the frame, Webster was able to go on an 8-3 run to take a 15-10 lead into the second. The Gorloks continued to play well to start the second and were able to grow their lead to as may as 22 midway through the frame. The Foresters battled back and cut the lead to six, but a 6-2 run to end the half gave Webster a 42-32 advantage at the break.

The Gorloks carried over their momentum into the third quarter and were able to grow their lead back out to 21 late in the frame. They took a 68-47 lead into the fourth and never looked back as they cruised to their third win on the young season.

Julie Baudendistel led the way for the Gorloks as she finished with a game high 23 points. In addition to Baudendistel, Lauryn Freeman finished with nine points, Jordyn Grimes finished with nine points, and Kate Rolfes finished with seven points.

Addison Beussink also had a great night as she finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the year. She joined elite company as her 12 points put her over 1,000 for her career making her just the fourth player in program history to score 1,000 career points and bring down 500 career rebounds. She currently sits at 1,008 career points and 573 career rebounds.

Following the conclusion of the tournament, Webster University announced the 2021 Webster Tip-Off Classic All-Tournament Team. For their efforts in the past two games, Julie Baudendistel was named to the all-tournament team and Addison Beussink was named the Most Valuable Player.

Webster will return to the court on Tuesday, November 16th when they travel to Jacksonville, Illinois, to take on Illinois College in a nonconference matchup. The game is set to start at 5:30 p.m.
