Gorloks Advance to SLIAC Finals With 2-1 Win

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This evening the Webster University men's soccer team was back in action when they played host the Fontbonne (Mo.) University Griffins in the SLIAC Men's Soccer Tournament Semifinals. The Gorloks, who earned the top seed in the SLIAC Tournament, were able to defeat the fifth seeded Griffins by a final score of 2-1 to advance to the finals of the SLIAC Men's Soccer Tournament. With the loss, the Griffins season ends with a 7-11 overall record.

The Gorloks out shot the Griffins by a final count of 22-10. They were able to put 12 of their shots on target compared to four from the Griffins. The Gorloks also led the corner count as they had seven compared to four from Fontbonne.

After a scoreless first half, the Gorloks picked up the tempo to start the second. They were able to get on the board in the 55th minute of the game after earning a penalty from a Griffin handball. Hunter Olaso took the penalty for Webster and was able to bury it in the bottom left corner of the net for his third goal of the season.

The Gorloks were able to add a second goal in the 89th minute of the game. Webster played the ball out of the back to Mark Moore who slotted it across the box to Aamahn Murvin. Murvin was able to place his shot into the bottom left corner of the net for his 15th tally of the season.

Fontbonne scored a late goal in the final minute of the game, but the Gorloks were able to close them out in the final seconds to solidify the win and advance to the SLIAC Tournament Final.

Matt Coffey was in goal tonight for Webster as he recorded three saves in his 17th win of the year.

With the win tonight, the Gorloks will advance to the SLIAC Men's Soccer Tournament Final on Saturday, November 6th. They will host the second seeded Spalding (Ky.) University Golden Eagles at 1 p.m. at World Wide Technology Soccer Park.
