Gorloks Defeat Fighting Scots in Big Bend Classic

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This afternoon the Webster University men's basketball team was back in action when they played host to the Monmouth (Ill.) College Fighting Scots in their final game of the 2021 Big Bend Classic. The Gorloks defeated the Fighting Scots by a final score of 80-54 to improve to 2-9 on the season. With the loss, Monmouth falls to 2-9 on the year.

Webster went 31-for-70 (44.3%) from the floor and 6-for-19 (31.6%) from behind the arc. They outrebounded the Fighting Scots 37-32 and forced Monmouth to turn the ball over 21 times. They turned those 21 turnovers into 23 points on the other end of the floor. Webster also dished out 15 assists in the game.

In the first half of the game, both sides came out and exchanged points early in the contest. With the score tied at 20, the Gorloks went on a 19-7 run and held a 39-27 lead late in the half. The Fighting Scots answered with a three pointer on the other end of the floor but the Gorloks would talk a 39-30 lead into the locker room.

Webster carried over their momentum into the second half and were able to extend their lead to 18 in the first three minutes of the period. They continued to push the tempo as the half progressed and grew their lead to 31 with just under seven minutes to play in the half. The Fighting Scots cut the lead back down to 23 late in the game but that was as close as they would get as the Gorloks closed them out down the stretch for their second win of the season.

Wynne Brown Jr. led the way for the Gorloks as he finished with a game high 20 points in the contest. In addition to Brown Jr., Jason Coleman finished with 16 points, Mark Moore added 14 points, and Rodson Etienne finished with 10 points to round out the top scorers for Webster. Karl Moore Jr. also had a nice game as he finished with a team high six rebounds while blocking three shots.

The Gorloks are back in action on Wednesday, January 5th when they travel across town to Fontbonne (Mo.) University to take on the Griffins in their first SLIAC game of the season. The game is set to tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
