Murvin Scores Twice in Webster's 4-0 Home Shutout Over Principia

Gorloks Outshoot Panthers in Victory

FENTON, Mo. - The Webster men's soccer team scored four goals in a game for the third time this season here Saturday afternoon as the Gorloks collected a 4-0 shutout victory over Principia in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play at World Wide Technology Soccer Park.

In three of Webster's four wins this season they have scored four goals and have tallied a total of 13 goals through the first five games of the 2020-21 season. Webster moved to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the league on the year with the win.

Two of Webster's four goals were scored by junior forward Aamahn Murvin (Sahuarita, Ariz./Walden Grove) as he recorded his fifth two-goal game of his Gorlok career. Both of Murvin's goals came in the first half as Webster led 2-0 at the half.

With his two goals, Murvin has now scored four of Webster's 13 goals on the season and pushed his career goal tally to 21, which is tied for sixth on the school's all-time chart.

Later in the match, Murvin would add an assist to give him five points in the match, which is a season high and one shy of his career high of six points set during the 2019 season. Murvin's five points on Saturday pushed his career total tio 52, which is 10th on the school's all-time list.

The other two goals by the Gorloks came from senior forward Ben Aziz (Paris, France/Marquette) and junior midfielder Justin Kohler (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo).

Along with scoring four goals, the Gorloks held a 30-3 edge in shots, including a 13-0 advantage on shots in the first half.

In fact, Principia's first shot of the match came in with 2:53 left in the match as Juniour Baraza put a shot that was wide right. The Panthers would take two more shots in the final two minutes of the match.

Murvin got the Gorloks on the scoreboard just a little over 15 minutes into the match as took a pass from junior defender Tanner Haugen (Jefferson City, Mo./Jefferson City) and connected on a shot from about 15 yards out that went over the Principia goal keeper's head.

About three minutes later, Murvin added a second goal off a deep pass in the box from junior midfielder Isaac Pearson (St. Louis, Mo./Maplewood-Richmond Heights) and connected from five yards out to give Webster a 2-0 lead.

That two goal lead would be all that Gorlok junior goalkeeper Matt Coffey (Eureka, Mo./Eureka) would need as he recorded his second shutout of the season in net and improved to 3-0 on the year. Coffey, who saved the only shot he faced, has now had nine career shutouts in the net as a Gorlok.

Aziz would give Coffey some an insurance goal in the 71st minute as he took a pass from Murvin and scored on a rebound shot in front of the goal. The goal by Aziz was his second of the season.

Kohler would add the fourth goal about a minutes after Aziz's goal as he took a pass on a free kick from freshman midfielder Carlos Llamas (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs) and connected on a rebound from two yards out to make the score 4-0 in Webster's favor.

The Gorloks also had a 10-0 edge in corner kicks, with eight of those corner kicks coming in the first half.

Llamas and Kohler each recorded five shots in the win, while Murvin and freshman midfielder Noah Abraham (Hazelwood, Mo./Hazelwood West) and freshman forward Mark Moore (Hillsboro, Mo./Hillsboro) each took four shots on the day. Murvin had three of WU's 11 shots on goal, while Kohler and Aziz each had two.

Elias Simpson (2-2-0) took the loss in net for Principia (2-2, 1-2 SLIAC) as he allowed four goals and made seven saves.

Three different Panthers took shots in the game.

The Gorloks will return to action this coming Tuesday, March 23 as they travel to Mediapolis, Iowa, for a 1 p.m. SLIAC match against Iowa Wesleyan (2-0-1 overall, 2-0-1 SLIAC).
