Women's Soccer Scores Four Goals, Posts Road Win Over Iowa Wesleyan

MEDIAPOLIS, Iowa - The Webster women's soccer team picked up its first win of the 2020-21 season here Tuesday afternoon as the Gorloks scored a season high four goals en route to posting a 4-1 win over Iowa Wesleyan University in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action at Mediapolis High School.

With their first win of the season, Webster improves to 1-2 overall and 1-2 in the league, while Iowa Wesleyan fell to 2-3 overall and 2-3 in the league. In addition, the Gorloks improved to 9-0 all-time against the Tigers in what might be the final time the teams will face each other in women's soccer as IWU will be leaving the SLIAC at the end of the 2020-21 school year and returning to play at the NAIA level.

Webster's offense outshot the Tigers, 23-2 and put eight of those 23 shots on goal and the four goals scored were the most scored by the Gorloks in a match since tallying six goals in a 6-0 win on Oct. 29, 2019 at Principia College. The Gorloks spread the goal scoring in the match as four different players scored.

Junior midfielder Kaitlyn Theriot (Lake St. Louis, Mo./Liberty) got the scoring started for the Gorloks with a goal in the 33rd minute off an assist from junior midfielder Jordan Bilyeu (St. Louis, Mo./Lindbergh). 

Senior midfielder Payton Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Fort Zumwalt East) gave the Gorloks a 2-0 lead as she found the goal midway through the 42nd minute. Williams' goal was her team-high tying second of the season.

Webster made it 3-0 just a little over 11 minutes into the second half as sophomore forward Mackenzie O'Neal (Milwaukee, Wis./South Milwaukee) scored an unassisted goal. 

Freshman forward Jennifer Munger (Loganville, Ga./Grayson) got into the scoring column in the 73rd minute as she scored off an assist from junior forward Jordan Lande (Sachse, Texas/Sachse) to give the Gorloks a 4-0 advantage. 

IWU would prevent a shutout by the Gorloks as Jacqueline Campos scored her league-leading fourth goal of the season in the 84th minute for complete the scoring.

Lande led the way for the Gorloks with six shots, while Munger and Williams each took four shots and combined for four shots on goal. 

The Gorloks also held an 11-1 edge on corner kicks in the match. 

IWU two shots were both taken by Campos as she had a shot in each half. 

Sophomore Taryn Banfield (Plano, Texas/Plano East) played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded one save and allowed one goal. Banfield is now 15-5-1 in her career in goal as a Gorlok and the 15 goalkeeper wins are tied for ninth on the school's all-time chart.

Kylie Mulhern-Guillier allowed four goals and made four saves for the Tigers in the net. 

The Gorloks will look to even their record to .500 on the season as they return to action this coming Saturday, March 27 as they travel to Greenville, Ill., for a 5 p.m. SLIAC match against Greenville University. The Gorloks opened this season with a 3-2 loss to the Panthers at World Wide Technology Soccer Park on March 10.
