Women's Soccer Evens Record at 2-2 After Road Win Over Greenville

GREENVILLE, Ill. - Webster University women's soccer evened their season record to 2-2 following its 2-0 shutout victory here Saturday evening against Greenville University in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action at Francis Field.

Saturday's win helped the Gorloks extract some revenge on the Panthers as Greenville picked up 3-2 win over the Gorloks in Webster's season opener on March 10.

With the win, Webster improved to 2-2 overall and 2-2 in the SLIAC, while Greenville fell to 1-4 overall and 1-4 in the league.

The match ended in the 78th minute following a long delay due lightning and rain that hit the Greenville area.

Prior to the delay, Webster held an 11-7 edge in shots and a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks. Seven of Webster's 11 shots were on goal, while Greenville had just one shot on goal.

Midway through the 32nd minute, freshman midfielder Abbey Poe (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway Central) scored her first career collegiate goal off assists by both junior midfielder Jordan Bilyeu (St. Louis, Mo./Lindbergh) and senior midfielder Payton Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Fort Zumwalt East).

The Gorloks lead grew to 2-0 with a little less than 90 seconds left in the first half as junior forward Jordan Lande (Sachse, Texas/Sachse) scored her second goal of the season off an assist from Williams. With her two assists, Williams is now tied with Bilyeu for the team lead in points with seven.

Williams took four of Webster's 11 shots and put three of those shots on goal, while Lande and junior midfielder Addison Hanusek (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) each took two shots in the win.

Williams' shot from the far left wing in the 55th minute was saved by Greenville goalkeeper Grace Gehner and in the 57th minute, freshman forward Jennifer Munger (Logansville, Ga./Grayson) had a shot from inside the box hit the post.

Sophomore Taryn Banfield (Plano, Texas/Plano East) posted the shutout in goal for the Gorloks as she recorded just one save in the win.

Gehner took the loss for the Panthers in goal as along with allowing two goals, she made five saves, including three in the second half.

The Gorloks will look to win its third straight match this coming Tuesday, March 30 as they host Blackburn for a 5 p.m. match at World Wide Technology Soccer Park in Fenton, Mo.
