JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - The Webster University men's tennis won its second straight match here Friday evening as the Gorloks posted a 9-0 shutout victory over Illinois College at the Bellatti Tennis Complex on the Illinois College campus.
With the win, Webster improves to 2-5 overall on the season and posts its second straight 9-0 win over Illinois College, while IC falls to 0-7 on the season.
The Gorloks opened Friday's match by winning all three doubles matches for the second consecutive match as Webster dropped a total of five games in the three doubles matches.Â
At No. 1 doubles, fifth-year seniorÂ
Riley Muren (O'Fallon, Mo./Illinois-Springfield) and freshmanÂ
Matthew Birchmeier (Swartz Creek, Mich./Flushing) won its fourth straight doubles match on the season as they earned an 8-0 shutout win over Ethan Sabotta and Jovan Norris. The Webster duo are now 4-3 in the doubles on the season.Â

Cody Neal (Fenton, Mo./Rockwood Summit) and juniorÂ
Tanner Haugen (Jefferson City, Mo./Jefferson City) posted their second straight doubles win at the No. 2 spot as they improved to 2-1 on the year following its 8-4 win over IC's duo of Connor Barton and Shane Koshikawa.Â
Webster's No. 3 doubles team on Friday was freshman
Noah Thomas (Wentzville, Ill./Holt) and junior
Justin Kohler (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) won 8-1 over IC's No. 3 team od Ibrahim Kamil and Kyler Kantor. It was the first time this season that Thomas and Kohler played doubles together.
Leading 3-0 in the match, the players turned to singles action and in singles play on Friday, the Gorloks lost just a total of 26 games in winning all six singles matches in straight sets.Â
Muren won his fourth consecutive match at No. 1 singles as he defeated Sabotta, 6-2, 6-1 to improve to 5-2 on the season. The singles victory was the 34th of Muren's career and that puts him tied for third in school history for career singles wins.Â
Neal would earn his second straight double bagel win at No. 2 singles over Barton as after winning 6-0, 6-0 on Sunday, he also won 6-0, 6-0 on Friday.Â
Burchmeier improved to 2-5 on the season as he posted a 6-3, 7-5 win at the No. 3 singles spot over Koshikawa.Â
Thomas posted his fourth straight singles win as he improved to 4-2 on the season after earning a 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 4 spot against Norris.Â
Kohler won his second straight singles match at the No. 5 spot in the line-up as he posted a 6-3, 6-4 win over Senaf Fayissa.Â
The Gorloks sixth and final win in singles came from senior
Courtland Butler (St. Louis, Mo./McKinley) as he improved to 2-3 on the season as he won by scores of 6-2, 6-4 over Kantor at the No. 6 spot.Â
Webster will be back in action on Sunday, March 28 as they play an exhibition match at Kaskaskia College beginning at 12 p.m.
