Women's Soccer Earns 1-0 Shutout Win at Westminster

FULTON, Mo. - Junior forward Jordan Lande (Sachse, Texas) scored the only goal of the match here Wednesday evening as the Webster women's soccer team posted a 1-0 shutout victory over Westminster (Mo.) College in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action at Westminster Field. 

With the win, Webster improved to 4-3 overall and 4-3 in the SLIAC, while Westminster fell to 6-3 overall, 4-3 in the SLIAC. 

Lande's goal in the 63rd minute that came off an assist from senior midfielder Payton Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Fort Zumwalt East) proved to be the game one and only goal in the match as Webster recorded its second shutout of the season. 

In the 85th minute, Abby Montana put a shot on goal, but it was a team save by the Gorloks to keep the Blue Jays off the scoreboard. 

On the night, the Gorloks held an 18-4 edge in shots, including an 11-2 advantage on shots in the second half. The 18 shots were the second most of the season for the Gorloks. 

Along with taking 18 shots, the Gorloks also put nine of those shots on goal, including placing seven shots on goal after halftime. 

Freshman forward Jennifer Munger (Loganville, Ga./Grayson) led the Gorloks with four shots, while Williams took three shots and put two of those shots on goal and freshman midfielder Angie Calabrese (San Marcos, Calif./Misson Hills) also had three shots and put one of those on goal. Lande and freshman midfielder Abbey Poe (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway Central) each took two shots in the win. 

Lauren Halamicek took two of Westminster's four shots in the match. 

Freshman Heather Jones (Bradenton, Fla./Florida Collegiate) earned the win in goal for Webster as she moved to 1-1 on the season as she had one save in 90 minutes of action to record her first career shutout win. 

Megan Davidson (5-3) took the loss in net for the Blue Jays as she allowed one goal and made eight saves. 

The Gorloks also had a 5-1 edge in corner kicks and Westminster had 10 fouls to Webster's seven fouls. 

Webster will close out the 2020-21 regular season this coming Saturday, April 17 as the Gorloks host Eureka for a 1 p.m. Senior Day match at World Wide Technology Soccer Park. Prior to Saturday's match, the Gorloks will honor its three seniors - Williams, defender Lexey Grapentine (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) and defender Kaleigh Finney (Concord, Calif./Northgate).
