WEBSTER GROVES - Webster University Baseball enters the month of May ranked No. 3 nationally in latest D3Baseball.com and Perfect Game Division III Top 25 polls that were released this week.
The Gorloks, who are 26-6 overall on the season and 17-3 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, jumped up one spot to No. 3 in this week's D3Baseball.com poll and fell one spot from No. 2 to No. 3 in this week's Perfect Game Division III poll after taking three out of four games at home this past week against Fontbonne University.
In the D3Baseball.com/NCBWA poll, Webster received 547 points and two first place votes to sit 21 points in front of No. 4 Salisbury (16-3) and 39 points behind No. 2 WashU (22-3), who fell from the top spot in the poll after dropping two of three games last weekend at Buena Vista.
Meanwhile, in the Perfect Game Division III poll, Webster fell one spot to No. 3 after being ranked No. 2 in the last three polls and opened the season ranked No. 1.
Trinity (Texas) (25-4) moved to the top of the rankings in both polls as they earned 15 first place votes and 612 points in the D3Baseball.com poll and moved from No. 4 to No. 1 in the Perfect Game rankings.
In fact, the top four teams are the same in both polls as Salisbury is ranked fourth, while at No. 5, Perfect Game has North Central (Ill.) (23-5) ranked fifth and D3Baseball.com has Marietta (21-3) at No. 5. Marietta received 495 points and one first place vote in the D3Baseball.com poll.
The Gorloks are the lone team from the SLIAC ranked in either of the two national polls, but Spalding (19-12) received three votes in this week's D3Baseball.com poll.
Webster, who will have this weekend off, will return to action next weekend (May 8-9) as they conclude SLIAC play with a four game series in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, against Iowa Wesleyan University. The teams will open the series with a doubleheader on May 8 beginning at 3 p.m. and will conclude the series with another doubleheader on May 9 beginning at 12 p.m.
