ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University volleyball team was back in action tonight when they played host to the Spalding (Ky.) University Golden Eagles in their first SLIAC game of the season. The Gorloks defeated the Golden Eagles in four sets (25-16, 26-24, 19-25, 25-16) to improve to 4-3 on the season and 1-0 in conference play. With the loss, the Golden Eagles fall to 1-5 on the year and 0-1 in the SLIAC.
The Gorloks put together 53 kills on 171 attacks for a .216 attacking percentage in the match. They finished with 11 kills in the first set, 12 kills in the second set, 12 kills in the third set, and 18 kills in the fourth set while committing just 16 attacking errors in the match. The Golden Eagles recorded 55 kills over the four sets and had an attacking percentage of .133.
Lauren Borik led the attack for the Gorloks as she finished with a match 19 kills. She also added a service ace, a block, and 19 digs. In addition to Borik,
Mary Nelson finished with 10 kills and 16 assists.
Ali Spohr also had a nice offensive game as she finished with eight kills and a team high 18 assists.
Spohr was also the leader on the defensive side of the ball as she finished with a match high 22 digs.
Kyra Gensel also finished with double digit digs as she recorded 19 in the match.
The Gorloks will return to the court on Wednesday, September 15
th when they travel down the street to Washington (Mo.) University to take on the Bears in a nonconference matchup. The game is set to start at 7 p.m.
