Rodgers OT Winner Lifts Gorloks

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This afternoon the Webster University women's soccer team was back in action when they played host to the Benedictine (Ill.) University Eagles at World Wide Technology Soccer Park. The Gorloks defeated the Eagles by a final score of 2-1 in overtime to improve to 3-1 on the season. With the loss, Benedictine falls to 0-5 on the year.

The Gorloks dominated the possession in this one as they controlled the ball for most of the game. They recorded nine shots in the first half, 12 shots in the second half, and three shots in overtime for 24 total shots in the match. Of those 24 shots, 12 were on target. They held the Eagles to just six shots in the game with all six finding the frame.

Webster also created several corner kick opportunities as they had eight in the first half, two in the second half, and three in overtime for 13 total. Benedictine had two corner kicks in the contest.

After finding themselves trailing 1-0 late in the game, Keri Voegtle was able to find the back of the net with just 11 minutes to play. Hope Dedic played the ball back to Voegtle who blasted it from 30 yards out and into the side netting for her first of the season.

Grace Rodgers had the game winner for the Gorloks as Dedic found her cutting through the box with just over four minutes to play in overtime. Rodgers calmly took a touch and slotted the ball into the far corner for her first tally of the year.

Taryn Banfield got the start for the Gorloks as she recorded five saves in the game.

The Gorloks are back on the pitch on Tuesday, September 14th when they host Westminster (Mo.) College at World Wide Technology Soccer Park. The game is set to kick-off at 5 p.m.
