GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Webster University women's tennis team was back on the court over the weekend when they traveled to Greenville, Illinois, to take on the Greenville (Ill.) College Panthers and the Anderson (Ind.) University Ravens. The Gorloks won both matches on the day as they defeated the Panthers 8-1 and the Ravens 5-4 to improve to 2-1 on the season.
In their first match of the day, the Gorloks won all three doubles matches.
Kylie Chitwood and
Navone Armstrong led the way for the Gorloks as they won their match by a final score of 8-0.
Emma Ferguson and
Katarina Serbentas also played well in their match as they won by a final score of 8-3.
Erin Brezovar and
Bailey Higgins won their match by a final score of 8-4.
The Gorloks dominated the singles portion of the match as five individuals picked up a win.
Erin Brezovar won her match in two sets (7-5, 6-4),
Emma Ferguson won her match in three sets (4-6, 6-3, 10-8),
Bailey Higgins won her match in two sets (8-6, 6-1),
Kylie Chitwood won her match in two sets (6-3, 6-2), and
Maddie Mena won in two sets (6-3, 6-2).
The Gorloks also played well in the second match of the day as they won two doubles matches and three singles.
Erin Brezovar and
Bailey Higgins won their doubles match by a final score of 8-6 while
Kylie Chitwood and
Navone Armstrong won their match by a final score of 8-6.
In the singles portion of the match,
Erin Brezovar,
Bailey Higgins, and
Maddie Mena all one their matches to help the Gorloks solidify the win. Brezovar won in two sets (6-0, 6-0), Mena won in two sets (6-4, 6-2), and Higgins won in three sets (6-1, 5-7, 1-0).
The Gorloks will return to the court on Saturday, September 25
th when they host the SLIAC Individual Tournament at Webster Groves Recreational Complex. The event is set to start at 9 a.m.
