Gorloks Compete in Three Events Over the Weekend

| Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University women's tennis team was back in action over the weekend as they competed in three separate events. On Friday, two members of the team traveled to Kalamazoo, Michigan, to compete in the ITA Central Regional. On Saturday, five members of the team competed in the SLIAC Individual Tournament at Webster Groves Recreational Complex. On Sunday, the entire team traveled to Kirksville, Missouri, to take on Truman State (Mo.) University.

At the ITA Central Regional in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the Gorloks had two competitors compete. Erin Brezovar competed in the singles portion of the competition as she fell to Hannah Johnston (6-3, 6-2) in the first round. She also competed in doubles with Bailey Higgins as they were defeated by Caroline Norton and Maddie Hurley from Kalamazoo (Mich.) College by a final score of 8-0 in the first round.

The Gorloks then had five people compete in the SLIAC Individual Tournament on Saturday. The Gorloks went undefeated in the event as they picked up singles wins from Emma Ferguson (6-2. 6-3), Katarina Serbentas (6-0, 6-2), Kylie Chitwood (6-3, 6-1), Maddie Mena (7-6, 6-2), and Chloe Daughtry (6-4, 6-0) in the first round. Chitwood (6-2, 6-1) and Daughtry (4-6, 6-0, 10-7) also competed in the second round of singles and both picked up wins in their respective matches.

In addition to singles, the Gorloks had two team compete in doubles. Emma Ferguson and Katarina Serbentas won both of their matches as they defeated Veronica Volkart and Ruth Hummel by a final score of 8-5, and then went on to defeat Erika Watanabe and Rebecca Zile by a final score of 8-2. Kylie Chitwood and Maddie Mena also won both of their matches as they defeated Micah Weisbrod and Izzy Smith by a final score of 8-0 before defeating Emma Franklin and Caroline Carlson by a final score of 8-5.

On Sunday, the tennis team traveled to Kirksville, Missouri, to take on Truman State (Mo.) University. They lost the match by a final score of 8-1. Erin Brezovar and Bailey Higgins picked up the win for the Gorloks as they were able to defeat Allie Brown an Akansha Negi by a final score of 8-2 in first doubles.

This marks the end of the 2021 women's tennis fall season. They will return to the court in the spring.
