FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Webster University women's tennis team opened its 2026-27 season Saturday, competing against Trine University and Franklin College in Franklin, Indiana. The Gorloks gained valuable early-season experience against two regional opponents while seeing players compete in their first matches of the season.

Webster opened the day against Trine, falling 7-0 in the first match of the day. Maggie McBratney and Abby Cristea competed at No. 1 doubles, while Riham Benjelloun and Evie Schuetz teamed at No. 2 and Miranda Yeates and Doreen Eyongeta played at No. 3.

In singles, McBratney and Cristea each won multiple games in their respective matches, while Miranda Yeates and Doreen Eyongeta also competed in singles action.

The Gorloks then faced host Franklin College, falling 6-1. Webster's lone team point came at No. 6 singles, where freshman Miranda Yeates earned a 6-4, 6-0 victory. Yeates finished the day with a singles win after also competing at No. 3 doubles against Trine.

Webster also had several competitive sets against the Grizzlies. Evie Schuetz pushed Franklin's Cox to a tiebreak in the opening set at No. 3 singles before falling 7-6 (7-5), 6-2, while Riham Benjelloun and Abby Cristea each battled at the top of the singles lineup.

The Gorloks will return to action Saturday, Sept. 19, hosting Illinois College at noon at the Webster Groves Recreational Complex. Webster's next home match will mark the team's first home competition of the 2026-27 season.
