ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Over the weekend, the Webster University men's tennis team hosted the SLIAC Individual Tournament at Webster Groves Recreational Complex.
Riley Muren and
Carson Fisher led the way for Webster University as they were able to win Flight A Doubles. They opened the bracket with an 8-3 win over Cooper Pennington and Brayden Chumpaphai from Westminster (Mo.) College, and then followed that up with an 8-5 win over Gavin Brown and Caden Hillman from the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis.
Courtland Butler and
Andrew McDonald also played well in Flight C as they were able to defeat Ryan Pemberton and John Moore from Westminster (Mo.) College by a final score of 8-3. However, they were defeated in the final of Flight C by Julian Delrez and Matthew Rodriguez from Greenville (Ill.) University by a final score of 8-0.
In the singles portion of the competition,
Matthew Birchmeier,
Aaron Demarco, and
Courtland Butler were all able to pick up first round wins in their respective flights. Birchmeier defeated Brayden Chumpaphai (6-2 / 6-2) from Westminster (Mo.) to advance to the final where he was defeated by Austin Burkhard (8-3) from Greenville (Ill.) College in Flight C. Demarco defeated Ani Kahthil (6-0 / 6-2) from the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis and then fell to Thibaut Tignee (8-1) from Greenville (Ill.) University in Flight E. Butler defeated John Moore (6-4 / 6-3) from Westminster (Mo.) College and then was defeated by Julian Delrez (8-0) in Flight F.
The men's tennis team returns to the court on Friday, October 1
st when they travel to Kalamazoo, Michigan, to compete in the ITA Central Regional Hosted by Kalamazoo College.
