LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Webster University men's soccer team took the field this evening as they traveled to Louisville, Kentucky, to take on the Spalding (Ky.) University Golden Eagles in a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Golden Eagles by a final score of 2-0 to improve to 6-1 on the season and 2-0 in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. With the loss, Spalding falls to 2-5-1 on the season and 1-2 in the SLIAC.
It did not take long for the Gorloks to get on the board in this one as they were able to find the back of the net just 21 minutes into the game.
Tavis Cameron had the goal for the Gorloks as he was able to finish off a corner kick for his first of the season to put the Gorloks up 1-0.
Aamahn Murvin scored the second goal for the Gorloks in the 56
th minute when he was able to dribble past the Golden Eagles keeper and put the ball into the back of the net for his seventh tally of the year.
The Gorloks outshot the Golden Eagles by a final count of 18-5. They recorded 11 shots in the first half and seven shots in the second half while putting eight of those shots on target. The also controlled the corner count as they finished with three in the first half and four in the second half for seven total in the game.
Matt Coffey was in net for the Gorloks as he made four saves in his first solo shutout of the season.
The Gorloks return to the field on Saturday, September 25
th when they host Fontbonne (Mo.) University in a SLIAC matchup at World Wide Technology Soccer Park. The game is set to kick-off at 3:30 p.m.
