ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This afternoon the Webster University men's soccer team was back in action when they played host to their cross town rival, Fontbonne (Mo.) University, in a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks were able to come from behind to defeat the Griffins by a final score of 2-1 to improve to 7-1 on the season and 3-0 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. With the loss, the Griffins fall to 1-6 on the season and 1-3 in the SLIAC.
The Gorloks controlled the pace in this one as they outshot the Griffins by a count of 17-8. Of their 17 shots, they were able to put three on frame. They also controlled the corner count as they had six corners in the game compared to just two from the Griffins.
After finding themselves trailing 1-0 at the half, the Gorloks picked it up to start the second.
Carlos Llamas (3) got the scoring going for the Gorloks as he was able to head in a cross from
Tanner Haugen to tie the score at one with 32 minutes to play in the game.
Aamahn Murvin had the game winner for Webster with six minutes to play as he was able to clean up a cross from
Colby Kapp for his eighth goal of the year.
Matt Coffey was in goal for the Gorloks as he made one save in the match.
The Gorloks return to the pitch on Monday, September 27
th when they play host to the Westminster (Mo.) College Bluejays in a makeup game from September 14
th. The match is set to start at 7 p.m. at World Wide Technology Soccer Park.
