ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Tonight the Webster University men's soccer team took the field when they played host to the Westminster (Mo.) College Bluejays in a rematch of last years SLIAC Tournament Championship game. The Gorloks were able to defeat the Bluejays by a final score of 3-0 to improve to 8-1 on the season and 4-0 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. With the loss, the Bluejays fall to 2-4-2 on the season and 2-1-1 in SLIAC play.
Webster led the shot count in this one as they finished with 16 shots compared to 12 from the Blue Jays. Of the Gorloks 16 shots, they were able to put eight on target. Westminster led the corner count as they finished with five in the game while Webster finished with one.
Aamahn Murvin got the scoring started for the Gorloks as he was able to score his ninth goal of the season in the 11
th minute of the contest.
Mark Moore had the assist for Webster, his third of the year.
The Gorloks were back at it again just 13 minutes later when Murvin found
Carlos Llamas for his fourth goal of the year to give the Gorloks a 2-0 lead. Llamas finished off the scoring late in the game when he was able to bury a free kick from just outside the box for his fifth tally of the year.
Matt Coffey was in goal tonight for the Gorloks as he recorded five saves in his second solo shutout of the season.
The Gorloks will return to the pitch on Wednesday, September 29
th when they play host to the Eureka (Ill.) College Red Devils in a SLIAC matchup. The game is set to start at 7:30 p.m. at World Wide Technology Soccer Park.
