Gorloks Drop Road Contest in Overtime

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Webster University women's soccer team was back in action this evening when they traveled to Louisville, Kentucky, to take on the Spalding (Ky.) University Golden Eagles in a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks fell to the Golden Eagles by a final score of 1-0 in overtime to fall to 5-2 on the season and 1-1 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. With the win, Spalding improves to 3-3-1 on the season.

Webster out shot the Golden Eagles by a final count of 20-6, putting nine of those on target compared to just three from Spalding. They created two corner kick
opportunities in each half while allowing three to the Golden Eagles in the game.

The Gorloks controlled the possession for most of the game but were unable to find the back of the net as the Golden Eagles keeper made nine saves in the match. Spalding scored the only goal of the game with just under 2:30 left to play in the first overtime period to hand Webster their first loss since Sepember 1st.

Grace Rodgers and Jordan Lande led the way for the Gorloks as they both recorded three shots on target in the game. Taryn Banfield was in goal for Webster as she made two saves in the contest.

The Gorloks return to the pitch on Saturday, September 25th when they play host to the Fontbonne (Mo.) University Griffins in the SLIAC Game of the Week. The match is set to kick-off at 1 p.m. at World Wide Technology Soccer Park.
