Gorloks Drop Second Straight Match

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This afternoon the Webster University women's soccer team played host to cross town rival Fontbonne (Mo.) University in the SLIAC Game of the Week. The Gorloks were defeated by a final score of 3-2 to fall to 5-3 on the season and 1-2 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. With the win, the Griffins improve to 4-2-1 on the year and 3-0-1 in the SLIAC.

The Gorloks had a tough time controlling possession in this one as the Griffins held the ball for a majority of the game. They were outshot 22-7 in the contest and put four shots on target compared to 12 from the Griffins. Fontbonne also controlled the corner count as they finished with 10 in the game while the Gorloks only had one.

It did not take long for the Gorloks to get on the board in this one as Grace Rodgers was able to find the back of the net just over three minutes into the game when she finished off a pass from Jordan Lande for her sixth tally of the season. The Gorloks were able to extend their lead 20 minutes into the second half when Mackenzie O'Neal found Jordan Lande for a breakaway. Lande was able to slip the ball past the Griffins keeper and into the back of the net for her eighth goal of the year.

The Gorloks held a lead with just 15 minutes to play in the game, but three goals from the Griffins in eight minutes solidified the victory for Fontbonne.

Taryn Banfield was in goal for the Gorloks as she recorded nine saves in the game.

The Gorloks will return to the field on Monday, September 27th when they host Westminster (Mo.) College in a makeup game from September 14th. The match is set to start at 5 p.m. at World Wide Technology Soccer Park.
