EUREKA, Ill. – This evening the Webster University volleyball team was back on the court when they traveled to Eureka, Illinois, to take on the Eureka (Ill.) College Red Devils in a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks were able to sweep the Red Devils in three straight sets (25-16, 25-20, 25-16) to improve to 7-7 on the season and 3-1 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. With the loss, the Red Devils fall to 4-11 on the season and 0-3 in SLIAC play.
Webster finished with 43 kills in the match and a .295 attacking percentage while holding the Red Devils to 21 total kills. The Gorloks also racked up three service aces, seven blocks, 34 assists, and 52 digs.
The Gorloks got off to a good start in this one as they opened the first set with a 10-4 run to jump out to an early lead. The Red Devils battled back and cut the lead to four, but a 7-2 run to end the set gave Webster a 1-0 lead in the match.
In the second set of the match, both sides came out and exchanged points early. With the score tied at nine, the Gorloks went on a 7-2 run to take a 16-11 lead midway through the set. Webster never let the Red Devils back into the game and cruised to a 25-20 win to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The third set started similar to the second as both teams exchanged points to start the game. However, with the score tied at 12 the Gorloks went on a 13-4 run to end the set and solidify the sweep.
Mary Nelson led the way for the Gorloks as she finished with a match high 11 kills, tied for a team high 15 assists, and recorded a team high 12 digs for her third triple-double of the season.

Ali Spohr finished with eight kills and 15 assists,
Lauren Borik finished with eight kills and 11 digs,
Kyra Gensel finished with 11 digs, and
Karter Hilliard finished with eight kills to round out the top performers for the Gorloks.
The Gorloks will return to the court on Thursday, September 30
th when they host Greenville (Ill.) University in a SLIAC matchup. The game is set to start at 7 p.m. in Grants Gymnasium.
