Sundhausen Nets Two in 5-0 Win

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This evening the Webster University women's soccer team was back in action when they played host to the Eureka (Ill.) College Red Devils in a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Red Devils by a final score of 5-0 to improve to 7-3 on the season and 3-2 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. With the loss, the Red Devils fall to 2-6 on the season and 1-4 in the SLIAC.

The Gorloks dominated the possession from the start in this one as they held the ball in the Red Devils half of the field for most of the game. They tallied 42 shots in the contest, including 23 on target, while allowing the Red Devils to post two shots in the game, including one on target. They also controlled the corner count as they finished with eight in the game compared to one from Eureka.

Mackenzie Sundhausen led the way for the Gorloks as she scored two goals in the game and had an assist. She got the scoring going in the seventh minute of the contest when she beat the Red Devils keeper for her fourth goal of the year. She then assisted the second goal of the game when she was able to find Jordan Lande across the mouth of the goal for Lande's team leading 11th tally of the year. Sundhausen was back at it again in the second half when she scored the fourth goal of the game with 19 minutes left to play. Emily Buchholz had the assist, her first of the season.

Kelly Bowen and Hope Dedic had the other two goals for the Gorloks. Bowen scored in the 43rd minute when she finished off a pass at the top of the box from Kaitlyn Theriot for her first goal of the season. Hope Dedic scored the final goal of the game in the 89th minute when she was able to finish off her third of the season to solidify the 5-0 win. Emily Buchholz assisted the goal, her second of the game.

Taryn Banfield was in goal for the Gorloks as she recorded one save in her third solo shutout of the season.

The Gorloks return to the field on Saturday, October 2nd when they travel to Greenville, Illinois, to take on Greenville (Ill.) University in a SLIAC matchup. The game is set to start at 7 p.m.
