FULTON, Mo. – The Webster University women's soccer team took the field tonight when they traveled to Fulton, Missouri, to take on the Westminster (Mo.) College Blue Jays in a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks, who defeated the Blue Jays in double overtime last week, were able to pick up their third straight win as they defeated Westminster by a final score of 2-0 to improve to 8-3 on the season and 4-2 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. With the loss, the Blue Jays fall to 3-6 on the season and 3-4 in the SLIAC.
The Gorloks controlled the possession for most of the game in this one as they posted 18 shots, including 12 on target. They limited the Blue Jays to three shots in the game including one on target. The Gorloks also controlled the corner count as they finished with 11 corner kicks compared to just on from the Blue Jays.
After a scoreless first half, the Gorloks came out in the second half and were able find the back of the net in the 47
th minute to go up 1-0 in the game.
Jordan Lande had the goal for Webster as she finished off a cross from
Jennifer Munger and touched it past the Blue Jays keeper for her 12th goal of the year.
Mackenzie Sundhausen scored the second goal for the Gorloks just 11 minutes later.
Jennifer Munger forced the Westminster keeper to make a save and the ball bounced to Sundhausen who calmly put the rebound past the keeper for her sixth goal of the game.
Taryn Banfield was in goal for the Gorloks as she made one save in her fourth solo shutout of the season.
The Gorloks will be back on the pitch on Saturday, October 9
th when they play host to the Principia (Ill.) College Panthers in a SLIAC matchup. This game will serve as senior day for the women's soccer team and prior to the start of the contest we will honor the nine seniors on the team for their hard work and dedication to the program throughout their time in a Webster uniform. The game is set to kick-off at 1 p.m. at World Wide Technology Soccer Park.
