Murvin Nets 50th Career Goal in Win

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University men's soccer team was back in action this afternoon when they played host to the Principia (Ill.) College Panthers for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Panthers by a final score of 3-2 to improve to 7-1-2 on the season and 5-0-1 in conference play. With the loss, the Panthers fall to 4-2-2 on the year and 2-2-1 in the SLIAC.

Webster and Principia both finished with 17 shots in the match with the Gorloks putting 11 on target compared to eight from the Panthers. The Gorloks led in the corner count as they finished with four while the Panthers recorded three.

It was the Aamahn Murvin show in the first half as he scored his eighth of the season in the eighth minute of the game. He was then able to net his 50th career goal in the 24th minute of the game making him just the second player in Gorlok history to reach the 50-career goal mark. Colby Kapp and Ty Baudendistel had the assists.

Webster was able to pick up a third goal in the half in the 32nd minute of the game when Aamahn Murvin played a ball across the mouth of the goal to Amar Mujezinovic who finished off his fourth of the year.

The Panthers picked up a late goal in the first half to cut the lead to 3-1 at the break, and then found the back of the net in the 71st minute of the game to cut the lead to one. They had several chances to score down the stretch but the Gorloks stayed strong and fought off the Panthers to solidify the win.

Luke Dillon and Ty Baudendistel split time in goal for the Gorloks as the two combined to make six saves in the contest.

The Gorloks will return to the pitch on Wednesday, October 5th when they travel to Louisville, Kentucky, to take on the Spalding (Ky.) University Golden Eagles in a SLIAC matchup. The game is set to start at 7:30 p.m. EST.
