Gorloks Sweep Eureka on the Road

EUREKA, Ill. – The Webster University volleyball team was back in action this evening when they traveled to Eureka, Illinois, to take on the Eureka (Ill) College Red Devils for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Red Devils in three straight sets (25-23, 25-16, 25-14) to improve to 10-7 on the season and 5-3 in the SLIAC. With the loss, Eureka falls to 6-14 on the season and 1-8 in conference play.

The Gorloks finished the match with 36 kills on 136 attacks for a .162 attacking percentage. They added four service aces, five blocks, 35 assists, and 91 digs. The Red Devils ended the match with 23 kills on 150 attacks for a -.020 attacking percentage.

Webster came out in the first set and jumped out to a quick 6-1 lead. The Red Devils answered with an 11-2 run and held a 12-8 advantage midway through the set. Webster battled all the way back and tied the score at 20, and then ended the set on a 5-3 run to solidify a 1-0 lead in the match.

The Gorloks carried over their momentum into the second set and jumped out to a 13-6 advantage. The Red Devils cut the lead to three, but Webster ended the set on an 8-2 run to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Webster once again came out strong in the third set and held a 9-3 advantage early. They never let Eureka back in the game and cruised to a 25-14 win to solidify the sweep.

Abby Jacobs led the attack for Webster as she finished with a team high 11 kills. Emma Leppien and Delaney Demman led the offense for the Gorloks as Leppien finished with 15 assists while Demman finished with 14. Leppien also added 18 digs to go along with a match high 34 digs from Cassie Gray and 22 digs from Tyler Ramstack.

Webster will return to the court on Saturday, October 15th when they host Westminster (Mo.) College and Central (Iowa) College for a tri-match. The Gorloks will play Westminster at 11 a.m. and Central at 3 p.m. The games will take place in Grant Gymnasium.
