FULTON, Mo. – The Webster University women's soccer team was back in action this afternoon when they traveled to Fulton, Missouri, to take on Westminster (Mo.) College Blue Jays for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Blue Jays by a final score of 2-0 to improve to 9-6-1 on the year and 6-3-1 in the SLIAC. With the loss, Westminster falls to 7-4-2 on the season and 6-2-2 in conference play.
Webster outshot Westminster 16-6 with all 16 of their shots being on target. Westminster finished with five shots on target. Webster also led in the corner count as they finished with eight while the Blue Jays finished with three.
It did not take long for Webster to get on the board in this one as
Grace Rodgers finished off her ninth of the season in the 6
th minute of the game.
Mackenzie O'Neal had the assist for Webster as she played a ball across the box to Rodgers who was able to knock it into the back of the net to give the Gorloks a 1-0 lead. The assist was O'Neal's fifth of the year.
Webster added to their lead just three minutes later when
Jordan Lande finished off her ninth of the season.
Grace Rodgers had the assist for the Gorloks, her sixth of the year.
Taryn Banfield was in goal for Webster tonight as she posted four saves in her seventh shutout of the season. This shutout marked her 30
th career solo shutout tying her with
Jessica Davis for the most career solo shutouts in program history.
The Gorloks will return to the field on Wednesday, October 19
th when they host the Eureka (Ill.) College Red Devils at WWT Soccer Park. The game is set to start at 5 p.m.
