ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University men's soccer team was back in action this afternoon when they traveled to Elsah, Illinois, to take on the Principia (Ill.) College Panthers for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks fell to the Panthers by a final score of 2-0 to fall to 11-2-3 on the season and 9-1-2 in conference play. With the win, the Panther improve to 8-4-3 on the season and 6-4-3 in the SLIAC.
The Gorloks outshot the Panthers 13-8 in the contest and put 10 shots on target compared to five from the Panthers. Webster also led in the corner count as they finished with two while Principia did not record any.
Principia came out in the first half and controlled the possession for most of the period. The Gorloks had a tough time getting anything going and were unable to put a shot on target in the half. The Panthers picked up a goal in the 28
th minute and held a 1-0 lead at the break.
Webster turned it up to start the second half and forced the Panthers keeper to make two saves in the first 10 minutes of the frame. The Panthers grew their lead to two in the 55
th minute and were able to hold off the Gorloks down the stretch to hand Webster their first SLIAC loss of the season.
Ty Baudendistel was in goal today for the Gorloks as he recorded three saves in the contest.
The Gorloks will return to the pitch on Thursday, October 27
th when they host the Spalding (Ky.) University Golden Eagles for their final home game of the regular season. The game will kick off at 7:30 p.m. at WWT Soccer Park.
