Gorloks Win Fifth Straight

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This evening the Webster University women's soccer team was back in action when they played host to the Spalding (Ky.) University Golden Eagles for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Golden Eagles by a final score of 2-0 to improve to 12-6-1 on the season and 9-3-1 in conference play. With the loss, the Golden Eagles fall to 7-8-1 on the season and 6-6-1 in the SLIAC.

The Gorloks outshot the Golden Eagles 9-7 in the contest while putting six shots on target compared to one from Spalding. Webster also led in the corner count as they finished with six while the Golden Eagles finished with 2.

The Gorloks got off to a fast start in this one as they were able to score in the seventh minute of the game to take a 1-0 lead. Mackenzie Sundhausen had the goal for Webster as she was able to intercept a clearance from the Golden Eagles defender and slip the ball into the back of the net for her fourth tally of the year.

Webster was back at it again in the 25th minute when Mackenzie O'Neal found the back of the net for the fifth time this season. Isabella Dickneite had the assist for Webster, her second of the year.

The Gorloks continued to play well in the second half but were unable to grow their lead. They kept the Golden Eagles out of the back of the net and cruised to their fifth straight win.

Taryn Banfield was in goal tonight for the Gorloks as she recorded one save in her ninth solo shutout of the season.

The Gorloks will play their final game of the regular season on Saturday, October 29th when they travel to Carlinville, Illinois, to take on the Blackburn (Ill.) College Beavers for a SLIAC matchup. The game is set to start at 1 p.m.
