ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University men's soccer team was back in action this afternoon when they played host to the Fontbonne (Mo.) University Griffins for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Griffins by a final score of 2-0 to improve to 9-1-2 on the season and 7-0-1 in SLIAC play. With the loss, the Griffins fall to 5-4-5 on the season and 4-3-1 in the conference.
The Griffins outshot the Gorloks 15-13 with both teams putting six shots on target. Fontbonne also led in the corner count as they finished with seven while the Gorloks finished with six.
The Gorloks got on the board in the 27
th minute of the game when
Mark Moore finished off his second of the season. Moore received the ball from
Aamahn Murvin running down the sideline and was able to beat several defenders before blasting a shot into the back corner of the net from outside of the box to give Webster a 1-0 lead. The assist was Murvins fifth of the year.
The Gorloks were back at it again just nine minutes later when
Aamahn Murvin found the back of the net for the 11
th time on the year.
Marco Donjuan had the assist for the Gorloks, his first of the season.
Ty Baudendistel was in goal today for the Gorloks as he recorded six saves in his fourth solo shutout of the season.
The Gorloks will return to the pitch on Wednesday, October 12
th when they host the Greenville (Ill.) University Panthers for a SLIAC matchup. The game is set to start at 7:30 p.m. at WWT Soccer Park.
