ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University women's soccer team was back in action this afternoon when they played host to the Fontbonne (Mo.) University Griffins for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks fell to the Griffins by a final score of 1-0 to fall to 7-6-1 on the season and 3-3-1 in SLIAC play. The Griffins improve to 8-1-2 on the year and 8-0 in the conference.
Webster was outshot 16-10 in the game and put two shots on target compared to four from the Griffins. Webster and Fontbonne both finished with six corner kicks in the contest.
Webster came out in the first half and controlled the possession early in the game. They put one shot on target in the half but were unable to capitalize as the game remained scoreless at the break.
The Gorloks continued to apply pressure in the second half, but the Griffins scored the lone goal of the game in the 71
st minute to solidify the victory.
Taryn Banfield was in goal for Webster as she recorded three saves in the contest.
The Gorloks will return to the pitch on Wednesday, October 12
th when they host the Greenville (Ill.) University Panthers for a SLIAC matchup. The game is set to start at 5 p.m. at WWT Soccer Park.
