Gorloks Stay Unbeaten in Nashville

NASHVILLE, TENN. – The Webster women's basketball team was back in action this afternoon when they took on the Penn State Behrend Lions in their final game of the Music City Classic in Nashville, Tennessee. The Gorloks improved to 10-1 on the season with an 86-75 win over the Lions. With the loss, the Lions drop to 8-3 on the season.

The Gorloks went 35-for-77 (45.5%) from the floor and 3-for-12 (25.0%) from behind the arc. They were outrebounded by the Lions by a final count of 44-42 but had 20 offensive boards compared to 17 from Behrend. Webster forced the Lions to turn the ball over 25 times in the game and turned those turnovers into 29 points on the other end of the floor. The Gorloks also dished out 21 assists in the game while racking up 18 steals.

The Gorloks came out in the first quarter of the game and found themselves trailing 12-7 after the first five minutes. They answered with a 11-4 run to end the period and took a 18-16 lead into the second. The game remained close for most of the second quarter, but with the score tied at 24 the Gorloks would end the half on a 16-7 run to take a 40-31 lead into the locker room.

Webster carried over their momentum into the third quarter as they started the frame on a 13-7 run to take a 53-39 lead. The Lions battled back and cut the lead to single digits late in the quarter, but a basket at the end of the quarter would give Webster a 61-50 lead heading into the fourth. The Lions were able to cut the Gorloks lead to as many as seven early in the fourth quarter, but Webster closed them out down the stretch to solidify the win.

Julie Baudendistel led the way for Webster as she finished with a game high 23 points to go with six rebounds. Bethany Lancaster also played well as she finished with 18 points and eight boards. In addition, Kate Rolfes finished with 10 points, Jordyn Grimes added nine points, and Emily Wilson grabbed a game high 10 rebounds.

The Gorloks will return to the court on Wednesday, January 4th when they travel to Louisville, Kentucky, to take on the Spalding (Ky.) University Golden Eagles in their first SLIAC matchup of the season. The game is set to tip-off at 5:30 p.m. EST.
