MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Webster University softball team kicked off their season this morning when they traveled to Memphis, Tennessee. The Gorloks played two games on the day as they defeated the University of Dallas (Texas) by a final score of 3-0 and fell to Rhodes (Tenn.) College by a final score of 8-6 to improve to 1-1 on the season.
The Gorloks got off to a great start in the first game of the doubleheader as they scored two runs in the bottom of the first to jump out to an early 2-0 lead.

Reese Waggoner (1-0) pitched a gem for the Gorloks as she allowed just three hits while striking out six in her first complete game shutout of the season.
Sheyla Iniguez led the way at the plate as she went 1-for-3 with two RBI. In addition,
Kaelyn Kearney went 1-for-2 with a run scored,
Erica Wright went 1-for-3 with a run scored, and
Taylor Jackson went 1-for-3 with a run scored to round out the top performers for the Gorloks.
The Gorloks carried over their momentum into the second game as
Katie Croxall singled to left field in the top of the first to score

Becka Brissette added to the lead later in the inning when she singled to left field driving in
Sheyla Iniguez to give Webster a 2-0 lead. The Gorloks added to their lead in the top of the second when
Katie Croxall doubled to left scoring
Erica Wright. The Lynx answered with three runs in the third, two runs in the fifth, and three runs in the sixth to take an 8-3 lead in the game. Webster scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to cut the lead to 8-6, but the Lynx picked up the final outs to solidify the win.
Sarah Shepard (0-1) was the starting pitcher in this one as she allowed eight hits and four earned runs while striking out two in 4.1 innings of work.
Braidyn Burr and
Jaleesa Smith relieved Shepard as the two combined to allow three hits and three earned runs while striking out one.
Katie Croxall led the Gorloks at the plate as she went 3-for-3 with two RBI.
Becka Brissette also had a nice game as she went 2-for-4 with three RBI. In addition,
Sheyla Iniguez went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and
Reese Waggoner added an RBI to round out the top performers for Webster.
The Gorloks will return to the diamond tomorrow as they will continue play in Memphis, Tennessee. They will take on the University of Dallas (Texas) at 10 a.m. and Rhodes (Tenn.) College at noon. The doubleheader will take place at Rhodes College.
