CARLINVILLE, Ill. – The Webster women's basketball team was back in action this afternoon when they traveled to Carlinville, Illinois, for their final game of the 2021-22 regular season. The Gorloks, who clinched their third straight SLIAC Regular Season Title on Thursday, were able to finish their regular season with a perfect 23-0 record and 14-0 mark in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a 98-66 win. With the loss, Blackburn falls to 5-20 on the year and 3-11 in SLIAC play.
The Gorloks went 34-for-79 (43.0%) from the floor and 4-for-22 (18.2%) from behind the arc. They were outrebounded by the Beavers by a final count of 48-47 but pulled down 19 offensive boards compared to 17 from Blackburn. The Gorloks forced the Beavers to turn the ball over 39 times in the game while turning those turnovers into 41 points on the other end of the floor. Webster also dished out 20 assists in the contest.
Webster came out in the first quarter of the game and jumped out to an 11-4 lead in the first six minutes. They continued to push the tempo as the period progressed and grew their lead to as many as 17 before taking a 23-8 lead into the second. The Beavers quickly cut the lead to 14 in the first few minutes of the second, but another run from the Gorloks put them up 22 midway through the frame. Blackburn cut the lead down to as many as 11, but a 12-3 run from Webster to end the half put them up 51-31 at the break.
The Gorloks came out in the third quarter and extended their lead out to 26 with four minutes to play in the frame. They pushed the lead out to as many as 28 down the final stretch and took a 71-47 lead into the fourth. The Beavers did their best to cut into the lead in the fourth, but the damage had been done as the Gorloks cruised to their 23
rd straight win to complete their perfect regular season.
Addison Beussink led the way for the Gorloks as she finished with a game high 20 points to go along with nine rebounds.
Nysa Gilchrist also had a great game as she finished with a season high 13 points. In addition,
Bethany Lancaster finished with 12 points,
Julie Baudendistel added 11 points, Noami Johnson finished with 10 points, and
Emily Wilson pulled down a team high 10 rebounds to round out the top performers for Webster.
The Gorloks have clinched the top seed the SLIAC Women's Basketball Tournament and will host their quarterfinals matchup at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 23
rd in Grant Gymnasium.
