ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University women's tennis team was back in action last night when they played host to the Hendrix (Ark.) College Warriors for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks were defeated by the Warriors by a final score of 7-2 to fall to 3-3 on the season. With the win, the Warriors improve to 1-2 on the year.
The Gorloks had a great showing in the doubles portion of the match as they won two of the three matches. Their top doubles team of
Erin Brezovar and
Bailey Higgins dominated their match as they defeated the Warriors top doubles team of Eleanor Brooks and Greer Ayers by a final score of 8-3. The Gorloks third doubles team of
Maddie Mena and
Navone Armstrong also won their match as they defeated the Warriors third doubles team of McKenzie McCready and Grace House by a final score of 8-7 to pick up a second win for Webster.
The Gorloks went on to get swept in the singles portion of the match but had several close matches.
Kylie Chitwood had a good showing in #4 singles as she dropped the first game by a final score of 7-5. She bounced back to win the second game by a final score of 6-3 but fell in the tiebreaker by a final score of 10-7 to McKenzie McCready.
Maddie Mena also came close to winning her singles match as she won the first game by a final score of 6-2 in #5 singles. Avery Stephens bounced back to take the second game by a final score of 6-2 and then won the tie breaker by a final score of 10-3 to solidify the win.
The Gorloks are back in action on Saturday, February 26
th when they play host to Concordia Seminary. The match will take place at 2:30 p.m. at Webster Groves Recreational Complex.
