Gorloks Improve to 2-1 on the Season

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The 14th ranked Webster baseball team was back on the diamond this afternoon when they traveled to Memphis, Tennessee, to take on Rhodes (Tenn.) College for their final game of the 2022 Rhodes College Classic. The Gorloks defeated the Lynx by a final score of 13-9 to improve to 2-1 on the season. With the loss, the Lynx fall to 2-3-1 on the year.

The Gorloks bats were rolling today as they put together 13 hits in the contest. They jumped out a quick lead in the top of the first as A.J. Smith hit a solo homerun to give webster a 1-0 lead. They added three runs in the top of the second and held a 4-0 advantage heading into the third. Rhodes answered with a run in the bottom of the third, but seven runs from the Gorloks over the next two innings put them up 11-1 in the game. Rhodes responded by scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth and four runs in the bottom of the seventh to cut Websters lead to 11-9, but a two-run single from Smith in the top of the eighth solidified the win.

Carter Hunt (1-0) was the starting pitcher in this one as he allowed five hits and five earned runs while striking out eight in 4.2 innings of work. Quinn Weber and Ben Kowalski came in to relieve Hunt as they combined to allow four hits and four earned runs while striking out four in the final 4.1 innings of the game.
