LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – This morning the Webster University softball team was back in action when they traveled to Lookout Mountain, Georgia, to take on the Transylvania (Ky.) University Pioneers for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks fell to the Pioneers by a final score of 7-3 to fall to 4-3 on the season. With the win, the Pioneers improve to 7-4 on the year.

The Gorloks put together five hits in the loss. Transylvania got on the board first as they rallied for four runs in the top of the first to take an early lead. They added runs in the top of the third and the top of the fourth and held a 6-0 advantage midway through the game. Webster's bats got going in the bottom of the fourth as Katie Croxall tripled to right field to score Lucy St. John. Croxall then scored on an RBI single from Sheyla Iniguez to cut the lead to 6-2. The Gorloks cut the lead to 6-3 in the bottom of the sixth on a RBI double from Arianna Arias, but a run from the Pioneers in the top of the seventh solidified the win.

Aven Ragwar-Hayes (0-1) was the starting pitcher in this one as she allowed three hits and three earned runs. Arianna Arias and Sarah Shepard pitched in relief as the two combined to allow eight hits and four earned runs while striking out one in the final seven innings of the game.

Lucy St. John led the way at the plate as she went 2-for-3 with a run scored. In addition, Katie Croxall went 1-for-3 with an RBI, Sheyla Iniguez went 1-for-2 with an RBI, and Arianna Arias went 1-for-3 with an RBI to round out the top offensive performers for Webster.

Webster is back in action on Wednesday, February 16^th when they travel to Demorest, Georgia, to take on the Piedmont (Ga.) University Lions for a doubleheader. The first game is set to start at 2 p.m. EST with the second game to follow.
