ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University women's tennis team was back in action over the weekend when they took on Evangel (Mo.) University, Illinois College, and Kaskaskia (Ill.) College. The Gorloks went 2-1 on the weekend as they fell to Evangel by a final score of 5-2, defeated Illinois College by a final score of 9-0, and defeated Kaskaskia by a final score of 7-2 to improve to 8-8 on the year.
In their match against Evangel, Webster picked up two points in the singles portion of the match.
Bailey Higgins won #3 singles as she defeated Carly McAtee by final scores of 6-2 and 7-6.
Maddie Mena picked up the other point for the Gorloks as she defeated Bethany Overturf in #6 singles by final scores of 6-0 and 6-2.
Webster bounced back on Sunday as they swept Illinois College in both singles and doubles. In doubles,
Erin Brezovar and
Bailey Higgins won #1 doubles by a final score of 8-2,
Emma Ferguson and
Kylie Chitwood won #2 doubles by a final score of 8-2, and
Maddie Mena and
Emily Casey won #3 doubles by a final score of 8-5.
In singles,
Erin Brezovar defeated Sophia Roth in #1 singles (6-0, 6-0),
Emma Ferguson defeated Michelle Magg in #2 singles (6-2, 6-0),
Bailey Higgins defeated Mikhayla Haloftis in #3 singles (6-0, 6-1),
Kylie Chitwood defeated Hannah Lueke in #4 singles (6-0, 6-0),
Emily Casey defeated Shya Prescott in #5 singles (6-1, 6-3), and
Maddie Mena defeated Lydia Criveau in #6 singles (6-0, 6-2).
The Gorloks carried over their momentum into their Sunday night match against Kaskaskia as they swept doubles.
Erin Brezovar and
Bailey Higgins won #1 doubles by a final score of 8-1,
Emma Ferguson and
Kylie Chitwood won #2 doubles by a final score of 8-6, and
Maddie Mena and
Emily Casey won #3 doubles by a final score of 8-2.
Webster followed that up with a 4-2 win in the singles portion of the match.
Erin Brezovar defeated Diana Mossman in #1 singles (6-0, 6-0),
Emma Ferguson defeated Larissa Hoffman in #2 singles (6-1, 6-3), and
Bailey Higgins defeated Carlie Barban in #3 singles (6-0, 6-2).
Maddie Mena picked up the final win of the day as she won #6 singles due to forfeit.
The Gorloks will return to the court on Saturday, April 2
nd when they host the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy (Mo.) Eutectics and Oakland City (Ind.) University for a doubleheader. The first match is set to start at 9 a.m. with the second to start at 5 p.m. at Webster Groves Recreational Complex.
