SAUGET, Ill. – The 12
th ranked Webster University baseball team was back in action this afternoon when they played host to the North Park (Ill.) University Vikings for the second game of the Webster Classic. The Gorloks defeated the Vikings by a final score of 2-1 to improve to 4-1 on the season. With the loss, the Vikings fall to 1-6 on the year.
The Gorloks got on the board first in this one as
Ben Swords singled to center field to score
R.J. LaRocco in the bottom of the third to give Webster a 1-0 lead.
Ben Swords was back at it again in the bottom of the seventh when he singled to right field to score
Bryson Rigsby from second. The Vikings scored in the top of the eighth, but the Gorloks were able pick up the final outs of the game to solidify their fourth win of the season.
Carter Hunt got the start in this one as he allowed four hits while striking out five in four scoreless innings.
Ben Kowalski (3-0) came in to relieve Hunt and picked up the win as he allowed just five hits while striking out three in the final five innings of the game.
The Gorloks put together nine hits in the win.
Ben Swords led the way at the plate as he went 2-for-3 with two RBI. In addition,
R.J. LaRocco went 1-for-3 with a run scored and
Bryson Rigsby scored a run to round out the top performers for the Gorloks.
The Gorloks are back in action tomorrow, March 6
th when they host Benedictine (Ill.) University for their final game of the Webster Classic. First pitch is set for noon at GCS Credit Union Ballpark.
