Gorloks Complete Series Sweep Over Blackburn

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The 12th ranked Webster University baseball team was back in action this afternoon when they played host to the Blackburn (Ill.) College Beavers for the final game of a three-game series. The Gorloks, who swept their doubleheader against the Beavers yesterday, were able to complete the three-game sweep as they won by a final score of 7-6 to improve to 18-5 on the season and 7-2 in SLIAC play. With the sweep, the Beavers fall to 3-23 on the season and 1-11 in conference play.

The Gorloks put together seven hits in the contest. They got on the board first when Evan Evola hit an RBI single to put Webster up 1-0. The Beavers answered with a run in each of the next two innings, but a six-run rally from the Gorloks in the bottom of the third put them up 7-2 heading into the fourth. Blackburn rallied for four runs of their own in the top of the seventh, but Webster was able to pick up the final outs of the game to solidify the sweep.

J.T. Miller was the starting pitcher in this one as he allowed two hits and one earned run while striking out two in 2.0 innings. Cooper Hake, Ben Kowalski (6-1), Deven Shulstad, and Sebastian Barrera pitched the next 5.0 innings as the four combined to allow three hits and four earned runs while striking out four. Carter Hunt picked up the save (1) as he pitched the final two innings of the game allowing just one hit and striking out two.

Parker Wielt led the way at the plate as he went 1-for-4 with a grand slam (3). In addition, Ben Swords went 1-for-3 with an RBI and Evan Evola went 1-for-2 with two RBI.

The Gorloks are back in action on Wednesday, April 13th when they play host to the Franklin (Ind.) College Grizzlies for a nonconference doubleheader. The doubleheader is set to start at 2 p.m. at GCS Credit Union Ballpark.
