ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University women's tennis team was back in action yesterday when they played host to the Greenville (Ill.) University Panthers for their first SLIAC match of the season. The Gorloks defeated the Panthers by a final score of 5-4 to improve to 11-9 on the season and 1-0 in SLIAC play. With the loss, the Panthers fall to 7-6 on the year.
The Gorloks swept the doubles portion on the match.
Erin Brezovar and
Bailey Higgins defeated Mireia Birosta and Addison Brannon in #1 doubles by a final score of 8-7 (7-4).
Emma Ferguson and
Kylie Chitwood defeated Shaling Reynolds and Claudia Principal in #2 doubles by a final score of 8-5. Lastly,
Maddie Mena and
Emily Casey defeated Emily Buratovich and Callie Adkins in #3 doubles by a final score of 8-6.
Webster then went on to win #1 and #3 singles to capture the match victory.
Erin Brezovar won #1 singles over Mireia Birosta by final scores of 3-6, 6-3, and 7-6 (7-5).
Bailey Higgins won #3 singles over Shaling Reynolds by final scores of 6-4, 1-6, and 6-4.
The Gorloks then played a tournament style match against Westminster (Mo.) College that did not count towards the teams record.
Bailey Higgins defeated Erika Watanabe by a final score of 8-1 and
Chloe Daughtry defeated Elena Thomas-Dietz by a final score of 8-6 in singles. In doubles,
Kylie Chitwood and
Chloe Daughtry defeated Elena Thomas-Dietz and Erika Watanabe by a final score of 8-4.
The Gorloks are back in action on Thursday, April 14
th when they travel to Elsah, Illinois, to take on Principia (Ill.) College for a SLIAC match. The match is set to start at 5:15 p.m.
