ELSAH, Ill. – The Webster University women's tennis team took on Principia (Ill.) College last Thursday night in Elsah, Illinois, for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks were defeated by the Panthers by a final score of 5-4 to fall to 11-10 on the season and 1-1 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. With the win, Principia improves to 7-9 on the season and 2-0 in conference play.
The Gorloks started off the match by taking two out of three in doubles.
Erin Brezovar and
Bailey Higgins won #1 doubles as they defeated Camila Gomez and Veronica Volkart by a final score of 8-5.
Maddie Mena and
Emily Casey won #3 doubles after defeating Ruth Hummell and Caroline Carlson by a final score of 8-4.
Maddie Mena and
Emily Casey carried over their momentum into the singles portion of the match as they picked up the only two points for Webster. Mena defeated Caroline Carlson in #5 singles by final scores of 6-0 and 6-1. Casey defeated Ruth Hummell in #6 singles by final scores of 6-4 and 6-3.
The Gorloks return to the court on Wednesday, April 20
th when they take on Concordia Seminary for a scrimmage at Dwight Davis Tennis Center. Their next regular season match will take place on Sunday, April 24
th when they host Simpson (Iowa) College at 8:30 a.m. and Westminster (Mo.) College at 3 p.m. at Webster Groves Recreational Complex.
