ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University softball team was back in action this afternoon when they played host to the Fontbonne (Mo.) University Griffins for the final game of a four game season series. The Gorloks were able to defeat the Griffins by a final score of 3-0 to improve to 13-14 on the season and 9-5 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. With the loss, Fontbonne falls to 14-14 on the year and 11-3 in the SLIAC.
The Gorloks put together seven hits in the contest. After two scoreless innings, they rallied for three runs in the bottom of the third thanks to a two-run double from
Ashlee Seltzer and an RBI single from
Paige Thomas. They played great defense as the game progressed and held off the Griffins down the stretch to solidify the win.
Braidyn Burr (1-1) was the starting pitcher in this one as she allowed six hits while striking out two in 5.1 scoreless innings.
Reese Waggoner picked up the save as she did not allow a hit in the final 1.2 innings of the game.
Ashlee Seltzer led the way at the plate as she went 2-for-3 with two RBI. In addition,
Paige Thomas went 1-for-2 with an RBI,
Katie Croxall went 1-for-2,
Sidney Holtz went 1-for-2, and
Lucy St. John went 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Webster is back in action tomorrow, April 23
rd when they travel to Carlinville, Illinois, to take on the Blackburn (Ill.) College Beavers for a SLIAC doubleheader. The first game is set to start at 6 p.m. with the second to follow.
