FULTON, Mo. – The Webster University women's tennis team was back on the court yesterday when they traveled to Fulton, Missouri, to take on the Westminster (Mo.) College Blue Jays for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks swept the Blue Jays as they won the match by a final score of 9-0 to improve to 13-10 on the season and 2-1 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. With the loss, the Blue Jays fall to 0-3 on the season.
The Gorloks got the day started with a sweep of the Blue Jays in the doubles portion of the match.
Erin Brezovar and
Bailey Higgins defeated Erika Watanabe and Rebecca Zile in #1 doubles by a final score of 8-3.
Maddie Mena and
Emma Ferguson defeated Elena Thomas-Dietz and Izabelle Smith in #2 doubles by a final score of 8-0. Lastly,
Kylie Chitwood and
Emily Casey picked up the win in #3 doubles due to forfeit.
Webster then went on to sweep the singles portion of the match.
Erin Brezovar defeated Erika Watanabe in #1 singles by final scores of 6-0 and 6-0.
Emma Ferguson won #2 doubles over Rebecca Zile by final scores of 6-2 and 6-2.
Bailey Higgins defeated Elena Thomas-Dietz by final scores of 6-0 and 6-0 in #3 singles.
Maddie Mena won #4 singles by final scores of 6-0 and 6-0 over Izabelle Smith. Lastly,
Kylie Chitwood won #5 singles and
Emily Casey won #6 singles by forfeit.
The Gorloks will return to the court for a scrimmage against Concordia (Mo.) Seminary on Wednesday, May 4
th. The match will take place at 7 p.m. at Webster Groves Recreational Complex.
