ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University softball team was back in action this afternoon when they played host to the Principia (Ill.) College Panthers for a SLIAC doubleheader. The Gorloks swept the doubleheader as they won the first game by a final score of 18-1 and the second game by a final score of 14-0 to improve to 19-14 on the season and 14-5 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. With the sweep, Principia falls to 0-24 on the year and 0-20 in conference play.
Prior to the start of the first game, the team honored their six seniors for their hard work and dedication to the program while sporting a Gorlok uniform.

Sarah Shepard were all recognized.
The Gorloks put together 20 hits in their first game of the doubleheader. They got on the board early and often as they scored 10 runs in the top of the first to jump out to an early lead. Principia answered with a run in the top of the second, but four runs from the Gorloks in the bottom of the frame put Webster up 14-1 in the contest. After a scoreless third inning, Webster rallied for four runs in the bottom of the fourth to solidify their sixth straight win.
Sarah Shepard (7-7) was the starting pitcher in this one as she allowed one earned run while striking out two in the first inning of the game.
Braidyn Burr pitched in relief as she allowed one hit while striking out four in the final 4.0 innings of the contest.
Arianna Arias and
Chloe Johnson led the way for Webster at the plate as they both finished with two hits and three RBI.
Ashlee Seltzer also drove in two runs as she went 1-for-2 with two RBI. In addition,
Jaelin Holdaway and
Taylor Jackson both finished with two hits and one RBI while
Sheldon Underwood,
Lucy St. John,
Aven Ragwar-Hayes,
Katie Croxall,
Emma Bovaconti,
Sheyla Iniguez,
Becka Brissette,
Jaelin Holdaway, and
Emma Steltzer each added an RBI.
Webster carried over their momentum into the second game and were able to rally for 21 hits in the contest. They scored four runs in the bottom of the first and three runs in the bottom of the second to jump out to a 7-0 lead. Webster continued to put the ball in play as the game progressed and scored five runs in the bottom of the third and two runs in the bottom of the fifth to capture their seventh straight win.
Reese Waggoner (9-3) and
Arianna Arias pitched a gem for the Gorloks as they combined for the first no hitter for Webster since the 2018 season when they defeated MacMurray by a final score of 8-0. Waggoner got the start in this one as she did not allow a hit while striking out three in the first inning of the game.
Arianna Arias pitched in relief as she struck out eight batters in the final four scoreless innings. This marks the teams seventh shutout of the season.
Katie Croxall,
Jaelin Holdaway, and
Sidney Holtz all had incredible games at the plate as they each went 4-for-4 in the game. Croxall went 4-for-4 with four runs scored, Holdaway went 4-for-4 with two RBI, and Holtz went 4-for-4 with five RBI.
Kaelyn Kearney also had a great game as she went 3-for-3 with three RBI. In addition,
Emma Bovaconti went 1-for-4 with two RBI while
Lucy St. John and
Emma Steltzer each added an RBI.
This marks the end of the 2022 regular season for the softball team. The Gorloks will play their first game of the SLIAC Softball Championships on Tuesday, May 3
rd at 4 p.m. at St. Joseph's Academy.
