O'FALLON, Mo. – The Webster University baseball team continued play in the SLIAC Baseball Tournament this afternoon when they traveled to O'Fallon, Missouri, to take on the Spalding (Ky.) University Golden Eagles. The Gorloks defeated the Golden Eagles by a final score of 3-2 to improve to 36-6 on the season and advance to the championship game of the tournament. Spalding will play tonight against Greenville (Ill.) University to see who the Gorloks will play on Saturday.

Webster was held to four hits in the game. After going hitless through the first four innings of the game, Malik Wirges hit a two-run homerun in the bottom of the fifth to give Webster a 2-0 lead. Ben Swords added to the Gorloks lead in the bottom of the sixth when he hit an RBI double to put Webster up 3-0 in the contest. The Golden Eagles answered with two runs in the top of the ninth but the Gorloks picked up the final outs of the game to solidify the win.

Jordan Smevoll (6-1) got the start as he allowed one hit while striking out three in 7.0 scoreless innings. Ben Kowalski pitched in relief as he allowed three hits and two earned runs while striking out one in the final 2.0 innings of the game. Kowalski recorded his second save of the season.

Malik Wirges led the way for Webster as he went 1-for-3 with two RBI and his fifth homerun of the year. Ben Swords also added an RBI as he went 1-for-3 in the game. Matt Staker was the only batter with more then one hit as he went 2-for-3 in the contest.

The Gorloks will return to the diamond on Saturday, May 14^th at 12 p.m. at Car Shield Field in O'Fallon, Missouri. The team will face the winner of tonight's game between the Spalding (Ky.) University Golden Eagles and the Greenville (Ill.) University Panthers. If the Gorloks win the game they will be crowned the SLIAC Tournament Champions, but if they lose then they will play a second game immediately following the first.
