ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University men's soccer team kicked off their season this evening when they played host to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks were defeated by the Warhawks by a final score of 2-0 to fall to 0-1 on the season. With the win, the Warhawks improve to 1-0 on the year.

Webster was outshot 17-8 in the game and put four shots on target compared to five from Whitewater. The Warhawks finished the game with 10 corner kicks while the Gorloks recorded four in the contest.

The Gorloks had a tough time getting anything going in the first half of the game as the Warhawks controlled the possession for most of the half. However, Webster played tough defense and were able to keep Whitewater out of the back of the net as the score remained 0-0 at the break.

Webster picked it up to start the second half, but a goal from the Warhawks in the 71^st minutes gave them a 1-0 lead in the contest. They were back at it again just two minutes later as they scored a second goal to put themselves up 2-0 in the game. The Gorloks tried to get back into the game in the final 20 minutes but were unable to capitalize as the Warhawks closed them out down the stretch to solidify the win.

Sriram Chidambaram (0-1) was in goal for Webster as he made three saves in the contest.

Webster returns to the field on Sunday, September 4^th when they travel to River Forest, Illinois, to take on the Dominican (Ill.) University Stars. The game is set to start at 12 p.m.
