RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Webster University men's soccer team was back on the field this afternoon when they traveled to River Forest, Illinois, to take on the Dominican (Ill.) University Stars for their first road contest of the season. Neither side was able to find the back of the net in this one as the game ended in a 0-0 draw. With the tie, the Gorloks improve to 0-1-1 on the season and the Stars improve to 1-0-1 on the season.
The Gorloks were outshot 14-9 in the game and put five shots on target compared to six from the Stars. The Gorloks finished the game with five corner kicks while Dominican finished with 4.
In the first half of the game, the Stars came out and controlled the possession early. Webster settled in as the half progressed and were able to put two shots on target but were unable to capitalize as the score remained 0-0 at the break. Webster was outshot 9-3 in the half with Dominican forcing
Luke Dillon to make three saves in his first collegiate action.
The Gorloks picked it up to start the second half and put two shots on target in the first 15 minutes of the half. However, neither side was able to capitalize on their chances down the final stretch of the half and the game remained 0-0 through the end of regulation.
Luke Dillon (0-0-1) was the starting keeper in this one for the Gorloks as he made six saves in his first career shutout.
The Gorloks will return to the field on Saturday, September 10
th when they travel to Crawfordsville, Indiana, to compete in the Robbie Dreher Classic. Webster will take on Monmouth (Ill.) University in their first game of the classic at 1 p.m. EDT. The game will take place at Wabash (Ind.) College.
