Gorloks Split Doubleheader in Greenville

GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Webster University women's tennis team was back in action this afternoon when they traveled to Greenville, Illinois, to play a doubleheader. The Gorloks split the doubleheader as they fell to Loras (Iowa) College by a final score of 6-3 and then defeated Greenville (Ill.) University by a final score of 6-3. With the split, the Gorloks improve to 4-2 on the year.

In their first match of the day, the Gorloks got off to a good start as they took two out of three in doubles. Erin Brezovar and Bailey Higgins defeated Isabel Schwabe and Lauren Diiulio in #1 doubles by a final score of 8-4. Maddie Mena and Kylie Chitwood took #2 doubles as they defeated Sara Backus and Dorothy Deans by a final score of 8-4.

Erin Brezovar carried over her momentum into singles as she was able to score the final point for the Gorloks. She defeated Isabel Schwabe by final scores of 6-3 and 6-1 in #1 singles.

Webster got off to another great start in their second match of the day as they swept doubles. Erin Brezovar and Bailey Higgins took #1 doubles over Mireia Birosta and Addison Brannon by a final score of 8-6. Kylie Chitwood and Maddie Mena won #2 doubles as they defeated Callie Adkins and Natalie Higashi by a final score of 8-7 (3). Lastly, Emily Casey and Bailee Pineda won #3 doubles over Stephanie Kamp and Sarah Brannon by a final score of 8-3.

Webster scored their final three points in singles as they won #3 singles, #4 singles, and #6 singles. Kylie Chitwood won #3 singles over Stephanie Kamp by final scores of 6-3 and 6-2. Maddie Mena won #4 singles over Callie Adkins by final scores of 6-7 (5), 6-1, and 14-12. Bailee Pineda closed out the scoring as she won #6 singles over Sarah Brannon by final scores of 6-0 and 6-1.

The women's tennis team will wrap up their season at the ITA Regional Championships from Friday, September 30th to Sunday, October 2nd. The tournament will take place at Washington (Mo.) University in St. Louis, Missouri.
