Birchmeier and Pinkston Compete in ITA Regionals

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Over the weekend, the men's tennis team wrapped up their fall season as they had two individuals competing in the ITA Regional Championships at Tao Tennis Center in St. Louis, Mo. Matthew Birchmeier and Alex Pinkston competed for the Gorloks as the two played as a doubles team while also competing in singles.

In doubles, Birchmeier and Pinkston lost their first match as they fell to Ajay Mahenthiran and Michael Sutanto from Case Western Reserve (Ohio) University by a final score of 8-2. They then went on to win their first match in the consolation bracket as they defeated Carter Burk and Ryan McCoy from Illinois Wesleyan University by a final score of 8-3. The pair advanced to the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket where they knocked out Luke Ritchie and Leonardo Abreu from Capitol (Ohio) University by a final score of 8-2. Birchmeier and Pinkston then fell in the semifinals of the consolation bracket to Cole Shifferly and Liam Grennon from Wabash (Ind.) College.

In singles, Alex Pinkston lost to Zachary Portnoy of Denison (Ohio) University in the main draw by final scores of 6-2 and 6-3. He then went on to play in the consolation bracket where he fell in the first round to Jay Fortner of Capitol (Ohio) University by final scores of 6-7, 7-5, and 5-10.

Matthew Birchmeier was able to defeat Jordan Cordrey from Transylvania (Ky.) University in the quarterfinals of the Blue Draw by final scores of 4-6, 6-4, and 10-3. He was then defeated in the semifinals by Luke Motsinger from Greenville (Ill.) University by final scores of 2-6 and 1-6.

This marks the end of the men's tennis fall season. They will resume their season in the spring.
