Gorloks Score 10 Goals in Win

EUREKA, Ill. – The Webster University women's soccer team was back on the field this afternoon when they traveled to Eureka, Illinois, to take on the Eureka (Ill.) College Red Devils for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks were able to pick up their first SLIAC win of the season as they defeated the Red Devils by a final score of 10-0 to improve to 4-4-1 on the season and 1-2-1 in conference play. With the loss, Eureka falls to 2-5 on the year and 1-4 in conference play.

The Gorloks outshot Eureka 62-3 in the match and put 36 shots on target compared to three from the Red Devils. They also led in the corner count as the Gorloks finished with 18 while Eureka did not record any. Their 62 shots are tied for the fourth most in a single game in program history.

Reaghan Young got the Gorloks on the board early in this one as she was able to score in the 17th minute of the game to give Webster a 1-0 lead. Young was back at it again just a few minutes later as she blasted in a shot from outside of the box for her second of the game.

Webster continued to apply pressure as the half progressed and were able to pick up goals from Abbey Poe, Payton Harting, and Mayrin Soto to give Webster a 5-0 lead at the break. The goal was Poe's fourth of the season and the first of both Harding and Soto's careers.

The Gorloks carried over their momentum into the second half of the game and scored three goals in the first 15 minutes of the half. Grace Rodgers netted her third and fourth of the season while Mackenzie O'Neal found the back of the net for the second time this year to give Webster an 8-0 advantage.

Jordan Bilyeu and Mayrin Soto closed out the scoring for the Gorloks as Bilyeu netted her first of the season and Soto finished off her second of the game.

Mackenzie Sundhausen, Mayrin Soto, Abbey Poe, Reaghan Young, and Grace Rodgers all tallied assists in the contest.

Taryn Banfield was in goal for the Gorloks as she recorded three saves in her second shutout of the season.

The Gorloks will return to the pitch on Wednesday, September 28th when they host the Washington (Mo.) University Bears for a nonconference matchup. The game is set to kick-off at World Wide Technology Soccer Park at 6 p.m.
